Broadgreen Historic House features a nationally significant textile and period costume collection of more than 3,000 items. This includes one of New Zealand’s oldest quilts, made in Ireland in 1776, as well as some of Nelson’s early European settlers' gowns and accessories. Most of the items were gifted by descendants of the original owners to be held at Broadgreen in trust for future generations. While some items are in a very fragile condition requiring special care, many items are on display in the house.
Broadgreen Historic House also has many items which give us a glimpse of Nelson’s colonial beginnings. Highlights include a Bothamley longcase clock, a beautiful kauri sideboard custom-made made for the Langbeins, a Broadwood piano, a tōtara knot writing desk, a mangle, cheese press, a gasolier chandelier restored by Nelson-based architectural historian and potter Christopher Vine, and more.
